Mist Trail

A short ride by the new and large hybrid buses. I kept a parking permit on the dash of my car rode to the Happy Isles stop

Since I stayed for just one night (not the best decision, I assure you), I used the provided parking permit and left my SUV in front of the Yosemite Village. There is a bus stop, #13 immediately in front. Simple and convenient. You can't get lost. The drivers announce each stop.

There are, btw, porta potties at the bus stop. Just FYI. It's one of those 'good-to-know' bits of info. This river leads all the way to Vernal Fall. .

After gaining a lot of altitude - the path is quite steep, you'll get to a bridge. There will be drinking water and you can see the fall upriver. This is the view back down,

The Mist Trail

Last time I was there, the fall and river were nothing like this. This was no 'misty trail', it was a deluge. I have two rain shells, and they were both hanging up at home, staying beautifully dry. Me, not so much. I very much wished I had them with me. It was brutal. Drenched to the skin, and cold where there was no sun The steps and rocks proved quite slippery at times. At least to me, it was a challenge. Some of the kids were doing way better than I. I was hanging in there with the more mature hikers. We needed breaks - frequently, to varying degrees. This is where a lot of them would turn around. They'd go to the bridge, see the fall, and head back down. From here, the crowd thinned dramatically
.

It really was like walking fully dressed into a shower that did not want to end...at this point, the slippery steps were mini-waterfalls themselves
