An agricultural watering station |
On the way to Mount Popa I was introduced to the various products from palm trees. Of course, I tasted it all, from the sweet syrup that is drained from the flower to the nut, to the oil, and definitely the stages of the Burma 'Toddy'. Where there is sugar, there will be a rum-like drink produced. The owner of the thriving business shows how potent the twice-distilled product can be. It torched quite nicely on the rock next to the skillet. The whole family is involved in this production plus helpers that climb the trees several times each day to bring empty syrup pots up and full ones down, or harvest the nuts. |
