When I saw this temple from the other side of the river, back in 1969, it was all scaffolded-up and inaccessible. It underwent many years of expensive and challenging restoration. Today, it can be seen in its full and amazing glory. I call it the 'porcelain' temple. In addition to local tiles, it is covered with bowls, plates, and tiles once used as ballast on ships from China.
The old man's feet gave out, see his boots
This old guy and his cast-off boots gave pause to those young monks (getting their required duty out of the way early in life). I guess, the old man's feet just didn't want to go on in the sweltering heat, and the climb up the central tower is quite challenging, as you can see below.
