The impressive Elephant Terrace near the Bayon temple. Large reliefs depict war elephants on some walls and garudas on the others. At the time these temples were built, the elephant was the battle wagon of the conquering Khmer armies, whose empire at times stretched from deep in Thailand to encompass most of the Mekong Delta in Southern Vietnam.
