Jordan 2006

Some of the houses, all ongoing projects for the owners, like ours, are simple, but colorful caves, others have grandiose facades

An ancient temple, later church, with remarkable mosaic floors is displayed under this welcome awning up one side of the valley..

The restaurant at the end of the world and a troupe of donkeys eagerly awaiting the opportunity to carry another bunch of tourists up the steep and rocky hills. I would be so depressed, had I to use that means of transport.

And so it went, hour after hour, and the only question one asked of those coming down, how far is it to the top?

This totally cute little Japanese hiker, away from her group, became the most precious interlude on the long hike up. I took some shots with her Nikon for her record, gave her my email address, long since changed, and then continued on. I really liked her. You can see the landscape behind her, where down below is the valley I had to finally return to.

Disregarding dessicated skeletons, I continued, and after, what seemed like
forever, there I was at the very top of the hike, past the other building

Not as grandiose as the Treasury, but not bad at all, and on to the flag, high above it.

Mission accomplished. The rest was just a fast march downhill and then once in town, uphill to my guesthouse. An 8.5h walk.
