Trier

One way to enter the walled city in the old days was through the Porta Negra, the Black Gate. The Romans built it from volcanic rock

Traces of the Roman heritage of this city can be found everywhere

Naturally, there's a Roman bridge over the Mosel River

And a Roman theater, still in use

The theater is an excellent show piece of Roman brick work

And my favorite, Constantine's Basilica, once the throne hall of the Roman Emperor.

RIght next to the basilica is this Rococco style palace of the regent of Trier

Which bring us back to wine, probably shipped from here to all over the Roman Empire. This sculptire sits in front of Weinstbube Kesselstatt
