Germany 2001

Berlin

Back in 2001, the Charlottenburger Palace held the Egyptian museum collection, since then relocated to the Museum Insel

It was quite an interesting collection, that is now housed on Museums Island

But there are a few unique pieces that make it very special

The most famous of which is the bust of Nefertiti

It even inspired me to model her in 3D in Lightwave a fun way to learn the software

At the Museum Insel (island), I had to see the magnificent Pergamon Altar, purchased by Germany in the 19th Century and rescued from the local Turks, who were burning marble statues like this in place of coal. Such pieces are considered idols in their religion and are not permitted. Islam does not allow any likenesses of the human shape to be displayed anywhere. So this was blasphemous in their eyes and needed to be gotten rid of..

Still hunting for the memory cards where the rest of the pictures from that six-month journey around Europe in 2001 are stored
