Avignon

Taking the TGV, high speed rail, from Paris to Avignon

One of the resons I went to and stayed in Avignon was my day-trips by train, that I knew would take me to Arles and Nimes. From the Avignon train station (not TGV) one can easily connect to both of those historic cities.

These are towns that put the mind and heart at rest. Avignon is also famous for lavender fields and lavender honey

The Chateau de Pape and the Avignon Cathedral
The Chateau de Pape, aka, Palais des Papes, built in the early 14th Century, under the direction of Pope Benedict XII, to house the Pope, who was fleeing strife and turmoil in Rome. Popes (and anti-Popes) occupied the Avignon location until 1408.
