France 2001
Rennes
(Bretagne)
Rennes, a lovely university town in Britanny, where I needed to go to catch a public bus to Mt. Saint Michel |
Wandering around the picturesque old town of Rennes is a pure delight |
Mont Saint Michel
(Normandie)
A stunning sight of the old monastery with the tide out |
One
enters via the causeway. The public bus from Rennes stops nearby. The causeway is a recent construction and has been changing the deposits of silt and tidal flow significantly. The French are considering replacing it with a less environmentally intrusive bridge |
From the main gate one meanders up the alley ever higher, enjoying fabulous views, all the way to the top |
The higher I got, the more I wanted to be down there, wading in the silt |
Finally, at the contemplative and peaceful center of the monastery |
