England 2001
British Museum
The always fascinating British Museum. This was before the great renovation. I love this place and go there every time I am in London.. |
A ship's bow decoration - Sutton Hoo collection |
To me one of the most captivating exhibits was the Sutton Hoo collection. In a lady's estate gardens an Anglican ship had been discovered and excavated, loaded with treasure, and probably used, as was the tradition, to bury a king. The link to the British Museum for the rest of the story. |
A beautifully patterned sword blade. A recreation modeled on what was found at the site |
Bronze age weapons and decorative bands |
The ancients certainly did not lack metal working skill or sense of artistry |
The Roman occupiers definitely brought their own style of weapons and cultural influence to Britain |
A musical instrument one might be afraid to use, for fear of damaging it |
