The highly anticipated VW E-bus. A blast from the past, but apparently still a viable concept |

Last, not least, there was Subaru, Here the mild-mannered and beastly versions of the BRZ sport car (developed jointly with Toyota's F86) |

This was the 'Droid' the crowd was looking for. Once the show started, and the VISIV rose on hydraulic pistons and the light show began, you couldn't get close anymore |

A horse, I mean, a bird of a different color, a solar powered race car. A university study project of little practical value, but one to teach the concepts of sound engineering and aerodynamics to students. |

Another interesting sideshow, a tire that does not use air, but still responds like a pneumatic tire |

But I hugely digressed, my apoligies, back to what the show was really about. |

An 'info-babe'. This cutie ran an information booth and I asked her how to get back to the main entrance. She spoke flawless English. I asked for a picture and she said, why? Her face, she claimed, was typically Japanese and unremarkable. I told her that she was charming, cute, intelligent and any man who could get her as a girlfriend would be a very fortunate man. She laughed happily and told me where to go. |

The young information girl also told me that Honda was in a separate building, When I stepped out, long after dark, the rain was falling in sheets. By then I was dog-tired and in no mood to find the other building, with more than an hour ride on several trains ahead of me to get back to Fussa, and a long walk from the station. So I skipped it, and still have no idea where it was located. Instead I followed the wet and huddled crowds back to the JR train station 11 to start the trek home. However, not to be left out completely, I found the highlights of the Honda display here at the Motor Trend website. The editors love the all-electric sport car concept, and while it is certainly aero-smooth and cute, it does not get my heart racing. Not this one, nor the little Fiat 500 look-alike next to it. Your opinion may differ, Notice, a cool touch, however, the outside rearview mirrors on both cars are cameras. Hi-tech but I rather look at an actual mirror which already points my head into the direction of the potential traffic, than looking down at a center-dashboard monitor. Again, just my opinion and probably just a matter of taste and personal preference. |
