Siggraph 2012
A slim harvest because of my staying just a single day, but hopefully with a few gems in there that are in character for me.
If viewed from the right direction, e.g. the artist's camera position, the illusion works perfectly |
A long line extending to the Newtek Lightwave booth, perfectly placed, right by the entrance, where people waited to get a T-shirt |
Deuce Bennet, mathematician, programmer, and former movie special effects guy (blowing things up - for real), captured while preparing the system to give me a motivational crash-course on LW 11.5. Most impressive (both). |
The ever lovely Kiki Stockhammer (a LW user herself) was back and enthusiastically working the crowd |
The Boxx Technology Workstation booth |
At one point I arrived from my rounds back at the Newtek booth and members of the Bohemian Grey Inc. were showing the outstanding Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) Curiosity Rover landing animation (7 Minutes of Terror). Go to the link for the whole video. |
The gifted Lino Grandi skillfully demonstrating the new Genoma rigging system offered in LW 11.5 |
Objet Geometries: 3D Printing at it's finest. An additive process that builds the object from a resin mixture. Once done, the artist/creator can finish and paint the object
I never did pick up a brochure
Seemed like I was the only visitor setting some of the booth-babes at Scanline VFX up for pictures, which they happily posed for. This is LA
A few more random shots from around the exhibit |
Z Brush, especially with their new 4R4 release, was always packing the house |
Motion capture, an industry staple, is never absent |
Green screening |
Two long-time Lightwave artists, Rob Powers, director of Newtek's Lightwave 3D Group in Burbank, CA, and Al Lopez, Vice President of Stargate Studios in Pasadena, CA, discussing the value of the LW generalist to the CG community. |
Al Lopez, LW artist and also a helicopter pilot, showed off the work done for 'Walking Dead' and how crowds of zombies were integrated into a scene |
On the way back to Citrus Heights, a Hwy 5 mishap (I don't think it was the tomatoes that spontaneously caught fire) |
