Dushanbe | The Locals & Bazaar | The Fann Mountains |
Tajikistan was one of the 'stans' I had not been to yet, the other one was Afghanistan. I decided to combine these two by making one conditional on the other. First of all, I had found out that it was a simple process to get a tourist visa for Tajikistan at the airport on arrival. Secondly, being a neighboring country to Afghanistan, I knew I could get a visa for that country in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan. Dushanbe is quite a delight to visit and easy to get around in. I greatly enjoyed the colorful Tajik dress of the women and the fountains that can be found in parks and along the main street of town, Rudaky Avenue. Tajikistan is over 90% mountains and great tours can be done into the specatcular Fann and Pamir Mountain ranges. When I was getting my tourist visa, a nature camera crew was also in the airport consulate office getting their visas and permits to trek the mountains and do a film shoot there. I really enjoyed my stay there. The Tajiks are clearly on the moderate side of the Muslim religion and enjoy a live and let live attitude, from all I can tell. |
