Old Muscat, Oman

Oman

After an all day wait and four hour bus ride, Oman ended up a very pleasant place to visit and one I could have spent more time in, especially in the desert away from Muscat, where there are tombs and somewhere, an old castle. While I would not mind revisiting Oman, I did have some enjoyable experiences in and around old Muscat and my short stay satisfied the curiosity that had been with me ever since, as a little guy, I read tales of Sindbad and remembered the port of Muscat to be one where he went to. Standing there, looking at the old harbor, modern ships present notwithstanding, with the castle above, watchtowers along the waterfront, the fish market and the old bazaar, I could really envision what it might have looked like back then.

Walking from Mutrah (the old harbor) to the gates of old Muscat - and back, a few km each way. Heat is a factor.

I may have to go back there again, just to shop in the old bazaar

That sure perks my interest

I combined three images for this one, that I took from a hill I climbed. This is the main part of Mutrah, next to the old Portuguese castle
