The Road to Muscat, Oman
After an all day wait and four hour bus ride, Oman ended up a very pleasant place to visit and one I could have spent more time in, especially in the desert away from Muscat, where there are tombs and somewhere, an old castle. However, as it was, I did have some enjoyable experiences in and around old Muscat and my short stay satisfied the curiosity that had been with me ever since, as a little guy, I read tales of Sindbad and remembered the port of Muscat to be one where he went to. Standing there, looking at the old harbor, modern ships present notwithstanding, with the castle above, watchtowers along the waterfront, the fish market and the old bazaar, I could really envision what it might have looked like back then. |

When I was flying out of Muscat on Qatar Air (great and brand-new airline), I was staying by the window (I had a row to myself) trying to see UAE coast, looking for those palm-shaped oceanside condo developments. I did see one, although barely, because of the altitude and haze, but it was clearly one of them. I think there are three, total. I used false color to enhance it for easier viewing. |
