Dubai
To the Camel Market. Everyone had heard of it, including a native I happened to chat with, in his Beduin sheets, who actually grew up here, but no one, except for him knew where it was. Well, he was wrong too, and a taxi driver from Pakistan knew where it had moved to. About 50 km outside of town. There was the new camel racetrack and on the other side of the freeway, well into the desert, the camel market. Expensive visit, but I did get my 'camel kiss' in return, and that probably made it all worth it. |
So at one point, on this brilliant early morning, on the way into the desert, I turned, and this is what was behind me. |
Racing camels being trained |
And then a few kilometers away, there it was, the camel market |
This brute of a male, a huge animal, was subject of the discussions when I walked up |
Camels are either extremely suspicious, very curious, or just very alert |
After having most of the camels politely move a step or two away from me, this group was different. This girl set the tone.. |
She eyed me one way, then the other, with the rest of them closely watching, then she was above me and next lowered her face to sniff my camera, then my shoulder, the neck, and then finally my face. I got my camel kiss. They let you know if they like you, that's for sure. Her snout was velvet soft. |
I had a taxi waiting, so it was 'good-bye girls' and I was back on my way to Dubai city. This little group added immensely to my visit there and made it definitely more interesting and enjoyable for me. |
What! Still here? I thought you were leaving |
