Dubrovnik, Croatia 2011
My approach to the swimming hole I saw from the top of the wall would be a little unorthodox. I planned to go to the southen edge of the city and then walk along the little edge at the base of the walls all the way to the sea gate, and then walk on until I got to the pier with the red marker and continue on at the base of the wall, around a corner and there I would be. As it turned out, not all went smooth. Murphy (of Murphy's Law fame) has a nice little niche carved out for himself in Croatia, too. |

So it begins. You notice a pool-type ladder, and this is actually a swimming hole, too, but I wanted to get to the one I saw from the wall. |

There's the pier I wanted to get to. Around that distant corner is the swimming hole that I spotted from the wall. |

I started here, with the old warehouses or barracks, gutted on the inside, behind me. |

And right away encountered the first hurdle, the ledge had eroded away. Almost did not make it and did so only with wet shoes and pant leg bottoms. The rocks were quite slippery and I worried about falling in and getting my camera wet. |

So I make it around the corner and find this. Almost no place for my shoes to find any traction, but first I needed to get under or around the stone thing. Then I saw those little metal pegs and spiderman'ed it along the wall grabbing those things, until I got to a place where there is a little bit of a surface for a foothold. That was pretty much the worst of it. From here on it was smooth sailing. |

I know, I know, I could have made it easy on myself and just walked inside of the city - The curious watching me from above. |

Anyway, it was pretty easy from here on. People go to and from boats here. |

...And this was about the end of it. I had to walk into the backdoor of a restaurant, by the kitchen, to get into the street and continue on the other side of the harbor gate.
