The American University and Bliss Street are the landmarks here. Yaffet Street crosses Hamra Street and terminates on Bliss Street. There is a map on their website. The place is not cheap, they wanted $88 plus tax, and since it was slow at the time I arrived, even though the University Inn, my principal choice on Bliss Street was full, and I was able to bargain the price down. There is a very nice breakfast buffet in the basement restaurant area, which is included in the price. The next day, however, it was full. I don't think that I could have done it then. Since I came from Syria, I took a service taxi from Beramke, Damascus, to Baalbek (picture, top) and then a micro bus to Beirut. From there a taxi to Bliss St. Many of you will arrive at Beirut Internation Airport and will go from there to the hotel of your choice. This one is a good one. I used it as a staging area from which to visit Sidon, Tyre, and Biblos. To the former you leave from Cola Station, the second required you to take a cab to the station from where you can catch a bus to Jebel. The English speaking hotel staff is very friendly and extremely helpful and will be happy to assist you with maps or directions to the places you need to go to. There is a sizable (Smith's) supermarket just down the street, and cabs are always waiting at the exit. However, I found it far cheaper to walk to Hamra or the parallel street leading in the opposite direction, to catch a service taxi. Bliss street, where the AUB is (see below) has tons of restaurants, stores, and right about where Yaffet Street terminates, you'll find a bank with an ATM that dispenses Lebanese currencey or US Dollars. Right close to there is also a pretty busy, very popular falafel and pizza place. You can eat there, but they also do take-away, or even deliver. |

This little place, right on Bliss Street, across from the American University Beirut (AUB), and on top of a McDonald's. As you face the fast food restaurant, the entrance is around the corner on the left side. The prices are right, and the guy at the desk was very helpful. However, it seems full much of the time, so contact them early to reserve a room. Going left on Bliss street, as you face the AUB, McDonald's at your back, you'll find a bank with an ATM that dispenses Lebanese currencey or US Dollars. Right close to there is also a pretty busy, very popular falafel and pizza place. You can eat there, but they also do take-away, or even deliver. |
