Ireland 2001

Dublin

Trinity College, where one finds the Book of Kells, the oldest known illuminated book. The spider? I think that in good Irish fashion they were getting ready for some party, some special event.
A neat city with people with colorful hair and colorful places
M & S stores one finds all over here and in England, where I would buy my lunches

Ha'penny Bridge in Dublin, not my picture - that I often crossed

As with the rest of the 2001 visits, camera memory ran out and new cards were expensive, however, there were more pictures, but I need to find where I secured them.

Boyne Valley - Bru Na Boinne

5000 year old graves and ceremonial mounds

I burdned the areas and placed arrows, to show where early humans carved marks

Boyne Valley - Drogheda

The Saint Laurence Gate in Drogheda, where our little group stopped for a delicious lunch of fresh-caught salmon

Monasterboice

Celtic Crosses

Muirdach's Cross (South Cross) 900-923 AD

Muirdach's Cross, a side view

West Cross, Ireland's tallest
One of the typical tall watch towers of this area

Don't know what all of that white stuff was, but I cleaned up a little of it on the cross on the left. Showing some detail here.

Not all the graves here are ancient
This is looking out of the window of the tower below

I remember this place being closed when we got there, and we had to jump the surrounding wall to enter

Monasterboice

Mellifont Abbey

The first Cistercian abbey to be built in Ireland
The abbey dates back to the 12th Century
