Requiem for a Distant Star

Our own sun has an expected lifespan of about 4 or 5 billion years more. Many other suns are already dying, i.e. burning out or going nova. This picture shows a sun nearing its end. Barely enough fusable material left to keep it going. It may end up blowing its surface away in a final convulsion, before collapsing into a small and dense ball. The only energy that it will give off at that time will be emitted as atoms collapse onto themselves. Bryce 3
