On the Nile, 2500 B.C.

The Egyptian ship is modeled entirely in TS3.2, after stone carvings and drawings from 2500 B.C. and older. It depicts the characteristic double mast, not often shown. One can also see why the Greeks derisively called the Egyptian ship builders "brick layers". The scarcity of the necessary lumber resulted in a relatively weak hull built from many small pieces. Not all details were available to me, so some are due to the artist's imagination. The garrison wall and the towers were built from clay bricks, a common building material in ancient Egypt. Huge stone blocks were only used for monuments. The obelisk is, as they all were, carved from a single stone slab. Steps and ramps were used to accommodate the loading and unloading of ships at seasonally varying water levels of the Nile.
